Travel Tips

Sure! Visiting Thimphu, Punakha, and Paro in Bhutan is a truly enchanting experience.
Here are some travel tips for your journey:

Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit Bhutan is during Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) when the weather is warm, dry and sunny.

Route and Accessibility:
If you're flying into Bhutan, you'll likely land at Paro Airport. From there, it's about 1.5 hours by car to Thimphu, and about 2.5 hours from Thimphu to Punakha. Bhutan has good roads and your travel agency will likely arrange for transportation.

Altitude and Acclimatization:
The altitude in Thimphu is about 2,334 meters and it's 1,300 meters in Punakha. Paro is around 2,200 meters. You might feel a bit light-headed upon arrival, make sure to rest well on the first day. Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activities initially.

Accommodation and Booking:
Hotels and resorts ranging from budget to luxury ones are available. It’s always safe to book your accommodations in advance to ensure the availability, especially during peak seasons.

Clothing and Essentials:
Carry warm clothing as the temperature drops in the evenings. Also, packing portable snacks for day tours would be beneficial. Do not forget to carry a durable pair of shoes as you would be doing quite a bit of walking.

Health and Safety:
Bhutan is a safe country. Carry a basic first-aid kit along with your regular medication. A sunhat, sunglasses and sunscreen are musts to protect from harsh sun rays.

Local Etiquette and Respect:
Bhutanese people are known for their warmth and hospitality. Always remember to respect the local traditions and culture. Dress appropriately, particularly when visiting Dzongs, monasteries and temples. You will need to remove your shoes before entering, and photography might be prohibited in certain areas. Ask for permission before taking pictures of people or religious ceremonies.
