Flights or trains can take you to Kolkata which is well-connected with all major cities in India. Then, you can take a forwarded flight to Bagdogra Airport, the nearest from Gangtok and Kalimpong.

From Bagdogra, taxis or shared cabs can get you to Gangtok and Kalimpong.

Altitude and Acclimatization:

Kolkata is at sea level, while Gangtok is at 5,500 feet and Kalimpong at 4,100 feet. For visitors not used to altitude, It's advised to take it slow to acclimatize and prevent altitude sickness.
