Hello! That sounds like an exciting trip. Here are some travel tips for your visit to Lima, Cusco, and Machu Picchu:

Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit these locations in Peru is during dry season from May to September. However, these are also peak tourist times, especially for Machu Picchu. If you prefer less crowd, consider visiting in the shoulder months like April and October.

Route and Accessibility:
You'll likely fly into Lima, which is well served by international airlines. From Lima, take a domestic flight to Cusco. The most common way to reach Machu Picchu from Cusco is by train to Aguas Calientes, the town just below the site, and then by bus up the mountain. Alternatively, there are multi-day treks that end at Machu Picchu.

Accommodation and Booking:
There are plenty of accommodation options in Lima and Cusco ranging from hostels to high-end hotels. In Aguas Calientes, the options are more limited and booking in advance is recommended, especially in peak season. You must also book your Machu Picchu entrance ticket in advance; they are not sold on site.

Clothing and Essentials:
Pack layers as temperatures in the Andean region can be cold in the mornings and evenings, but get quite warm during the day. Rain gear is essential during the rainy season. Hiking boots are necessary if you plan on trekking. Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses are also recommended due to the high UV index at altitude.

Health and Safety:
Be cautious of pickpockets in tourist areas and keep your belongings secure. Always remember to use bottled water for drinking and brushing teeth. Beware of altitude sickness; it can take a day or two to acclimatize.

Local Etiquette and Respect:
Always ask permission before taking photos of locals in traditional attire. Respect sacred sites and follow any signage. Consider learning a few basic words in Spanish, such as hello (hola), please (por favor) and thank you (gracias).
