Renowned as the world's greatest open-air museum, Luxor stands tall in Upper Egypt. It's famously known for its temples and the Valley of the Kings that was once Thebes, Pharaohs' capital at the height of their power during the 16th–11th centuries B.C. Its ruins are adorned with the colourful frescoes and giant statues juxtaposing the desert landscape, offering a spectacular view. Luxor is indeed an epitome of Egypt's ancient grandeur.

It contains significant archaeological sites like the Philae temple complex on Agilkia Island. Near Aswan Dam is Lake Nasser and the monumental statues of the 20th-century Nubian Monuments complex, including the Colossi of Memnon. The city is also known for its bustling marketplaces and the Nubian Museum.
