Travel Tips

Absolutely! Travelling to Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou will offer you a beautiful blend of modern and traditional Chinese culture. Here are some travel tips:

Best Time to Visit:
The ideal time to visit these three cities is during autumn (September to November) for mild weather, and spring (March to May) for beautiful blooming flowers.

Route and Accessibility:
You can start your journey in Shanghai, from where you can take either train or bus to Hangzhou and Suzhou as they are very well connected. There are high-speed trains running between these cities and the journey only takes about 1-2 hours.

Altitude and Acclimatization:
These cities are at sea level so no need for altitude acclimatization. However, bear in mind it could be humid during summers.

Accommodation and Booking:
There are various options from luxury hotels to budget hostels. It’s suggested to book in advance for better deals, especially during Chinese holidays.

Clothing and Essentials:
Pack according to the season during your visit. Comfortable shoes are essential as there will be lots of walking, visiting ancient gardens in Suzhou and West Lake in Hangzhou. Don’t forget to carry sunscreen, a hat, and a reusable water bottle.

Health and Safety:
Carry any personal medication. Chinese cities are pretty safe, but like anywhere else, watch your belongings in crowded tourist places.

Local Etiquette and Respect:
Chinese places significant importance on manners. Avoid public displays of affection. It's also usual to greet older people before greeting the younger ones. And remember, tipping isn't customary in China.

In addition, have a translation App ready as English is not widely spoken in smaller cities. Enjoy the delicious food, beautiful landscapes and rich history these cities have to offer!
