Travel Tips

Currency: SOS Time Zone: East Africa Time (UTC +3) Language: Somali

Hello! That's a fantastic choice of destinations. I am delighted to assist you in planning your trip to Mogadishu, Marka, and Kismayo in Somalia.

Best Time to Visit:
The most suitable time to visit these places is during the dry season, which is from December to March. The climate is agreeable, with minimal rainfall and maximum average temperatures of 30°C.

Route and Accessibility:
Mogadishu is easily accessible via Aden Adde International Airport. From Mogadishu, you can travel south to Marka and Kismayo by road or air. Keep in mind, road conditions may vary, and security checkpoints are commonplace.

Accommodation and Booking:
Mogadishu offers a range of accommodations from luxury hotels to budget lodges. It's best to book in advance particularly during peak season. In Marka and Kismayo, the options are fewer and more basic, so book ahead.

Clothing and Essentials:
Light breathable clothing is advisable, along with hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect from the sun. Also, pack a sturdy pair of shoes for any walking or trekking. As Somalia is predominantly Muslim, modest dressing is encouraged.

Health and Safety:
Ensure you're up-to-date with routine vaccines. Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Meningitis, and Yellow Fever vaccines are also recommended. Drink only bottled water. Given the situation in Somalia, it's essential to hire a reputable local guide and inform your embassy about your travel plans.

Local Etiquette and Respect:
Somalis are known for their hospitality. Respect local customs and religious practices, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. Asking for permission before clicking photos of people is appreciated.
