Travel Tips

Currency: CAD Time Zone: Mountain Standard Time (UTC -7) Language: English

Hello! I'm glad to assist with your upcoming adventure to Calgary, Banff, and Jasper.

Best Time to Visit:
The best time to visit these places is from June to August and from December to March. June to August is great for hiking, sightseeing, and wildlife spotting given the pleasant summer weather. December to March is perfect for winter activities like snowboarding and skiing.

Route and Accessibility:
The easiest way to reach Calgary is by plane, it has a well-connected international airport. From Calgary to Banff and Jasper, it's best to rent a car or take a bus. There are also shuttles from Calgary Airport directly to Banff. Trains unfortunately do not operate in these areas.

Accommodation and Booking:
Hotels, lodges, and B&Bs are available in all three locations. Make sure to book well in advance, especially during peak season. Banff and Jasper also have campsites if you're looking for a more outdoorsy stay.

Clothing and Essentials:
For summer, light clothing plus a warmer layer for evenings is advisable. But if you're visiting in winter, bring heavy winter clothing including warm sweaters, winter jackets, gloves, and boots. Don't forget essentials like sunscreen, a water bottle, a hat, and comfortable hiking shoes if you plan to hike.

Health and Safety:
Ensure you're up to date with routine vaccines. It's important to stay hydrated and apply sunscreen regularly as UV rays are stronger at higher altitudes. Always carry a map, bear spray and maintain a safe distance from wildlife. In winter, make sure to stay aware of the weather updates to avoid any snowstorms.

Local Etiquette and Respect:
Canadians are known for their politeness. Be respectful to the environment by sticking to the marked trails while hiking and disposing trash responsibly. In addition, always respect wildlife by observing from a safe distance.
