Travel Tips

Absolutely! Your journey across Nairobi, Mombasa, Diani, and Lamu sounds exciting! Here are some travel tips to ensure you have a smooth experience:

Best Time to Visit:
The pleasant weather in Kenya can be enjoyed throughout the year, however, the best time to visit the beaches of Mombasa, Diani and Lamu are from October to early April.
For wildlife viewing in Nairobi, July through October is excellent because of the annual wildebeest migration.

Route and Accessibility:
Nairobi is well connected by air to many parts of the world. From Nairobi, you can reach Mombasa by air, by train (via the SGR line), or by road. For Lamu, you can either fly in from Nairobi or take a bus from Mombasa, and for Diani, a 30-minute flight from Nairobi or a 1-hour drive from Mombasa.

Altitude and Acclimatization:
Nairobi is at an elevation, but it's mostly mild, and altitude sickness is not a common concern here. However, staying well-hydrated is always good!

Accommodation and Booking:
It is advisable to book accommodation in advance. Nairobi and Mombasa have a range of luxury hotels, while Diani and Lamu offer boutique resorts as well as budget accommodations.

Clothing and Essentials:
Pack your clothes based on the season. Carry light clothes for the day and some jackets for nights in Nairobi. Don't forget your swimsuit for the beaches in Diani and Lamu! Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, and a high-quality insect repellent are must-haves.

Health and Safety:
Drink only bottled water and take necessary precautions against malaria. Follow local directives and advisories about safety. In Nairobi, it's advisable to avoid flaunting expensive items in public to avoid attracting undue attention.

Local Etiquette and Respect:
Respect the local customs and traditions. Kenyans are typically warm and friendly but avoid discussing sensitive political topics. Conservative clothing is recommended, especially in rural areas and religious sites. At the coast, where there's a large Muslim population, modesty is appreciated.
